The Madran Tree Nursery was but a shell only a couple of years ago, since the current provincial government decided to concentrate its growing operations at its Kingsclear facility, near Fredericton. Today, it is poised to become a nursery producing the finest seedlings in Eastern Canada, not to mention creating jobs in an area of New Brunswick which not only has a high rate of unemployment, but has seen a drastic over-cut in recent years. It is the hope of all people working at the nursery that our society will take the over-cut in our forests seriously, and double the sylviculture efforts so that our mills may have a future. If this is done, we will be ready to build that future The 60,000 square-foot nursery is able to accommodate up to two plantings in a calendar year, and producing up to nine million seedlings in that time. Therefore, an investment in the future of that way of life is seen by the North Shore marketing board manager as a sound investment in the future of this area and our province as a whole. Types of trees available for the 2007 planting season include: BLACK SPRUCE, WHITE SPRUCE, RED PINE, JACK PINE, CEDAR, YELLOW BIRCH AND TAMARACK. The nursery phone number is (506) 783-1916. To contact the nursery supervisor, Patrick Doucet, just call (506) 545-5836. |
